Bas Melssen

Bas has been living and working in the Asia Pacific region since 1997 and is a Permanent Resident in Malaysia. He has recently completed the Sustainable Business Strategy course at Harvard Business School and has a double Degree in Business Administration and in Business & Commerce from the Netherlands. 

Since early 2014 Bas has been working for Novozymes in various capacities such as regional head of Biomass conversion – Asia Pacific, Director Biorefining – Asia Pacific and most recently Regional Director for Public Affairs & Sustainability – Asia.

With a background in government relations, policy development/advisory, strategy consulting and commercial business development Bas was engaged by Malaysia’s Prime Minister’s Office from 2010-2014 to conceptualise, develop and lead high impact economic initiatives such as Malaysia’s National Biomass Strategy 2020, the National Graphene Action Plan 2020 and the Mid-Tier Companies programme.

Previously Bas worked as Global Commercial Director for an Australian multinational and headed up the Malaysian office for a Global consulting firm.
 
Internationally he has established commercial ventures throughout Asia-Pacific, Europe and the Middle East, worked with policy makers throughout the Asia-Pacific region on bio fuels & bio chemicals policies and is a regular speaker at industry conferences.

Bas will be speaking about the Future of the Bioeconomy in the Asia Pacific.
